Does your home suffer from bookcase abandonment?
As a home staging professional I often encounter a common design dilemma- Bookcases that have been crammed with massive amounts of unused items!
I am especially shocked when I see home sellers with gorgeous custom built-ins overflowing with their sophomore year English class paperbacks, children's art creations, tennis ball cans, and cd-collections as if they were the highlight of their living room. Let me make one thing clear- bookcases are a great storage solution for an office or library but if the bookcase in question is a focal point of a room, or a selling feature of your home it needs to be treated as a showpiece.

Kate ~ I love your blogs and tips on the homegoods site and always look forward to reading them! Bookshelves can be so difficult. If left too bare, not appealing - if overdone, the same. We recently staged a vacant home that had a room with an entire wall of box/shelf type bookcases and the client wanted us to address almost the entire wall! We used books and accessories and finally ended up addressing the middle section that was in the main visual path once you entered the room. I usually love working with bookshelves, but these were tough! I am looking forward to your next post.
Kate,
Bookcases and can make or break a room. you did a great job of illustrating this!
Kate, Bookcases are one my favorite things to stage. It's a very popular subject, that is one of the top keywords/phrase I can see that leads to my website.
Thanks for the great article!
Hi Ladies,
Thanks for commenting. I got the idea for this blog because I noticed that whenever I did a home staging consultation for a client I realized that I needed a simple way for them to arrange their bookcases on their own. This blog was a simple step by step process that seems to work every time.
I am writing my last few posts this week for HGs so make sure to check back
I appreciate your support. KH
