Need Instant Art? Read my HomeGoods blog number 2

As a home staging professional I find that my resale clients are concerned that their older homes do not have the same look as the newly decorated model homes on the market today. Often times they have not gotten around to decorating or furnishing their home and now that it is time to sell it needs to look more complete to be competitive with other homes on the market. One thing clients always seem to need is artwork. I have discovered that almost every home has a hidden stash of artwork if you only know where to look. Interested in finding out where I search first? Click here to read my latest featured post on HomeGoods' website and share your ideas for instant art in your clients' homes.

Great post and so very true.  It is amazing what I find inside some of my listings... I love mirrors in rooms.

Kate- I can see I have to get myself some plate hangers! I have found decorative trays and displayed them on stands. Thanks for the reminder about plates!

Hi ladies,

thanks for commenting, I am always amazed at the treasures clients have they do not realize they can use to accent their home. kh

Kate,

Using what the homeowner already has, but in a new creative way, is one of the most rewarding aspects of helping to stage client's home.  Are those plate hangers easy to apply?

Hi All,

I am glad that you liked the plate idea. So many time I find these amazing things tucked into client's cabinets that never get used or are still in their original packaging. I love the look on their face when we find something that they can use and not have to spend money on.

The plate hangers are really easy- they have hooks on springs and latch onto the plate. On the back is a wire hanger that you can hang on a nail. I get them at my local hardware store for about $1.50 apiece. I always keep a few in my staging kit so I can instantly add some art.

Thanks for checking out this blog and my HomeGoods blog. The response from the industry has been great. This is another step in getting consumers to notice home stagers and the value we bring to the home selling process. KH

My little guy posing for the photo - in my own kitchen - on his way to bed last night:-

My mother used to hang plates everywhere.  My husband only lets me do it in the kitchen!!

It's a great idea for those needing to replace all those family photos they've covered the walls with.

Interesting points...there are some easy ways to update n old house without re-furninshing the whole thing.  Some artwork can definitely do the trick, and so can some indirect or accent lighting, rather than just the ceiling fixtures.  There's a point though, when a seller can go too far trying to make the old home look new.  For example, a 1905 victorian just isn't supposed to look modern.  In many ways, it can't.  I do like the artwork suggestion, and I'll use it!

Thanks for taking it up a notch for the industry! Well done!!! As for the plates, I love them! We keep the plate hangers as well as table top holders for display plates. Way to go!

thanks all, I love the pic of Juliet's boy with the plates BTW- the pink dining room on the hg site is mine- I did not have time to take new pics so I used that one. I told you my house is not neutral or staged! It is very personal and would need a total staging intervention if I needed to sell it. KH

Fireplace MantleI really like the vesatility of plates!  Here is one I recently used as a focal point...

This living room is open to a bright red dining room.  You can't really tell from the picture, but there are red berries on the 'greenery' that really pull it all together.
